S.5 - Laken Riley Act
The bill expands mandatory detention requirements to include individuals who are charged with or convicted of crimes such as burglary, theft, larceny, shoplifting, assault of a law enforcement officer, or any crime resulting in death or serious bodily injury. H.R. 1 – One Big Beautiful Bill

STATE LEGISLATION | IMMIGRATION:
FLORIDA Senate Bill 2C & Senate Bill 4C
SB 2C creates a new State Board of Immigration Enforcement and directs millions toward hiring/training officers and local grants. It also Repeals instate tuition for undocumented students. Makes voting by undocumented immigrants (or aiding such voting) a felony. It enhances criminal penalties—including stipulating bail presumptions for undocumented individuals. Signed: 2/13/25.
TEXAS Senate Bill 8 – Mandates SheriffICE Collaboration
This bill requires sheriffs operating jails in about 234 of Texas's 254 counties to enter agreements with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. These agreements delegate authority—such as serving administrative immigration warrants or conducting field immigration checks—to local law enforcement. It also includes a grant program to help offset costs. Signed: June 20, 2025.
IDAHO – HB135
The bill bars unauthorized immigrants from accessing publicly funded services, creates new crimes: "illegal entry" and "illegal reentry," Introduces felony trafficking charges for those facilitating movement of undocumented individuals. Signed: April 3, 2025.
TENNESSEE – SB 6002
The bill imposes strict sanctuary-city curbs: Criminal penalties (Class E felony) and removal from office for local officials who establish sanctuary policies. Signed: January 30, 2025.
STATE LEGISLATION | ELECTION INTEGRITY:
Wisconsin Senate Joint Resolution 2
On April 1, 2025, Wisconsin voters approved a constitutional amendment requiring photographic identification for voting. This measure, known as Wisconsin Question 1, received 63.1% support and enshrines the existing voter ID requirement into the state constitution. Passed/Adopted: 4/2/2025.
West Virginia – House Bill 3016
The bill requires photo ID (driver's license, passport, military ID, or free voter ID card) for inperson voting. Signed 5/1/25.
Alabama – Senate Bill 158
The bill prohibits foreign national driver's licenses/IDs from being used as acceptable voter identification. Signed: 5/2025.
Indiana – SB 10
The bill specifies educational institution IDs (e.g., school IDs) cannot be used for voting; updates data-sharing protocols. Passed in 2025.
WEST VIRGINIA - SB 486
The bill clarifies voter eligibility qualifications, expressly providing that only U.S. citizens may vote in all elections held in West Virginia. Signed: March 26, 2025, and became effective 6/17/2025.
WEST VIRGINIA - SB 490
The bill prohibits ranked-choice voting in West Virginia elections. Signed: 3/18/2025.
WEST VIRGINIA - HB 3016
The bill requires that all forms of acceptable ID used for in-person voting in West Virginia include a photograph, with limited exceptions. Signed: April 30, 2025
UTAH HB0300
This bill introduces comprehensive changes to Utah's election laws, focusing on voting procedures, voter registration, and ballot handling. Beginning January 1, 2029, voters will need to explicitly request to receive a ballot by mail, and ballots will require additional identification information like the last four digits of a driver's license or state ID. INDIANA – SENATE BILL 10
Would prohibit the use of student IDs as voter identification, ensuring only Hoosier residents are voting in Indiana. SB 10 would also improve the accuracy of voter rolls by requiring voter list maintenance at least twice a year, county offices to verify the status of non-active voters and the Election Division to request other states join the Indiana Data Enhancement Association. Passed 4/2/2025.
